HYDE LIKES: taking risks, partying, boys, girls, experimenting, alcohol, drugs, staying out all night, sex, sunsets, riots, challenging the norm, fashion, travel, drama, ruining relationships, sleeping around, lying, causing a scene, the way it smells right after it starts raining
HYDE DISLIKES:telling the truth, doing nothing, acting good, feeling lost, politics, religion, going with the norm, obeying the law, country music, people, romantic comedies, being alone, whenever it’s humid out, olives, reality tv, peace, love, happiness, hippies, republicans, libertarians, christians, scientology, tom cruise.
PERSONALITY:
addict: Pretty self-explanatory since when you’re an addict, you’re an addict. You need things every day to function, and normally these things aren’t healthy for you and honestly that’s what Nate’s in to. Whatever bad thing he can get his hands on, you can bet he’ll grow incredibly attached to it to the point where he needs it to function normally in society. Yeah, I know it’s ridiculous for a sixteen year old to be so fucked up in the head that he needs constant drugs of some sort in his system. It probably had to do with what his mother did to him when he was little (which we’ll discuss later), but he needs SOMETHING in his system. He has to be dependent on something or else he just won’t be able to function.
insensitive: If someone has a problem, this kid won't really listen to it. He'll either make fun of you for thinking the problem is such a big deal, or he'll simply brush you off like you're not worth his time. He's awful when if comes to people's feelings as well. If they're feeling down in the dumps he might try and fix it (depending on how close he is to the person), but will end up saying something that will make it worse overall. Though sometimes he'll make it worse just for his own entertainment, because hey, misery sure does love company when you get down to it.
sarcastic: Now, in all honesty he thinks he's being funny and making jokes that everyone will laugh at when he says something off-beat and sarcastic. But we all know that's not how it goes, and he just comes off as a jerk for the most part. He'll make little quips about how people are acting or simply just say inappropriate things. If someone asks a dumb question or says something generally stupid he won't waste time in verbally attacking them. It's not his fault that people are incredibly stupid and it's just so easy to make fun of them. In short, he's just not pleasant to many people.
affectionate: When he has something in his system, all he wants is to be touched and loved. He'll want to touch you and just be as close as possible to you. Though most of his affection can be considered a ruse most of the time, as in the morning after, he still likes feeling close to someone even if it's just for a fleeting moment. He likes to feel wanted and to just get close enough to touch someone and satisfy his needs. Some people might even say he's like a puppy dog vying for attention when he wants it, because he will just about worm his way in to your heart to get his way. But just remember, its all very, very temporary.
lost: Despite his tough, somewhat confident exterior Nate is like a little lost child in Disneyland, whose parents have abandoned or forgotten him and all he can do is stand there with a worried frown on his face and bite back the harsh sting of tears. He doesn’t know what to do a lot of the time, especially when it comes to love or anything that involves getting close to someone. He seeks acceptance, but can never find it. Mainly because of the way he tries to compensate for being so lost (i.e. being nasty or a complete asshole to someone). Despite constantly seeking answers and acceptance, if someone were to ask him what he was looking for, he wouldn’t be able to answer. He’d say ‘I don’t know, now fuck off,’ being the charmer he is. Though if anyone was ever able to give him what he wanted, you could bet he'd be a slightly better person to them than he is to everyone else.
SECRETS: [none of that: it wouldn't be a secret bullshit. at least four secrets]
FEARS: [at least four fears]

HISTORY: Nate’s history starts off fairly normal, and to be honest continues to be quite normal save for a few bumps or so along the way. His parents met in some quirky little way that involved a broken down car and some odd romantic spark that made them just know that they were meant for each other. They took a few years to live together before they finally tied the knot. After a year or two they decided to have their first kid, and after those nine months of pregnancy and those 13 laborious hours in the hospital, their first child was welcomed in to the world with completely open arms. It was a boy, and his name was Nathan Hyde Vonnegut, and he was perfect. Big, bright blue eyes and chubby cheeks.
When the boy was brought home, both Mary Ellis and Roger poured their hearts and souls in to raising him. He grew up fine, until he was about 5 or 6...when he started to go to kindergarten and become more independent. Now, Mary Ellis wasn’t completely happy with her perfect little boy starting to push her away. And sure, another little Harper was on the way, but she had grown to crave the utter devotion and dependence on her from her little boy and now that he was off at school making friends and relying less and less on her? Well, honestly, she didn’t like it...so she started to develop some odd psycho-somatic disease. One that’s pretty rare, and that you don’t really ever hear of that often. Munchausen syndrome by proxy is the name.
She didn’t want to lose her son, or his devotion and dependence or the constant attention he gave her, so she started to force him to give her that attention. How? Well it’s quite simple. She started to poison him, deliberately make him sick or deliberately injure him so that he would be forced to seek comfort from his mother, pay attention to her as she took care of him, depend on her like he had when he was a little baby. Now, Roger was completely unaware of it, since Mary Ellis was very sneaky about it. He just thought his son was either A. impossibly clumsy or B. had a weak or suppressed immune system and simply tried giving him immune-boosting vitamins and getting him helmets and knee pads for whenever he went out on a skateboard/rollerblades/anything besides his own two feet. And somehow he missed whenever Nate would come back with another broken wrist or broken ankle because of a misplaced toy or something in the house (thanks to his caring mother). Though as the years drew on and Roger began to grow suspicious of his son constantly breaking things, somehow concluding that he can’t be THAT clumsy, and someone else must be doing this to him, Mary Ellis began to turn to poisoning her son to keep him sick and dependent on her.
Now, when his brother was brought in to the world, she took a break from constantly torturing Nate, though unfortunately that didn’t last too long. Only for about a year or so before she noticed he was pulling even further away than before. Obviously she didn’t like this although her other little boy was still so devoted to her, she knew he would start to do the same thing once he started growing up. So she just started earlier with him, which wasn’t healthy (obviously!), and she kept going with Nate. She’d add a little arsenic to his milk or his orange juice, give him a few too many tylenols, crush a few pain pills in to his oatmeal or his dinners before giving them to him so he’d get sick or stay sick so he’d come crawling back to his mother. If he wasn’t paying attention to her for long enough that she deemed appropriate, she’d up the dosage, get him sicker so he’d have no choice but to pay attention to her. Depend on her, just like his little brother was and they were completely unaware. This continued through middle school for Nate until he finally stopped being so naive. He began to notice how secretive and possessive of his food his own mother was. He stopped eating what she’d give him, simply pushing the food around the plate to give the illusion that he’d eaten some of it, eating later or going out with friends and eating junk food. Almost immediately he started to feel better. His stomach wasn’t constantly in knots or revolting against his own body, though he did feel shaky and like he was missing something that he needed. Although he’d sabotaged his mother’s attempts to keep him dependent, the damage she’d done was irreversible. He’d become addicted to whatever she had been feeding him, and although he didn’t know what it was he just knew he felt empty without it.
And so, his friends introduced him to a magical substance called marijuana. It somehow filled that hole his mother had created, and it made him feel wonderful. He fell in love with it, and found himself scrounging to try new things, find other ways to fill the void. And so he found cocaine, heroin, crystal meth, speed, LSD, acid, you name it he found it and he loved it. It made him feel whole for the short time it was used, but as most drugs do they tend to leave you feeling emptier than before. Which, of course, he did, and thus an addict was born. Nathan Hyde Vonnegut had become an addict at the tender young age of 16, and there was nothing he could do.
