DEREK DISLIKES:
PERSONALITY:
controllable.
You can ask Derek for whatever you want, he’ll get it for you. Even if you’re standing up and he’s lying comfortably watching something on TV, he’ll get whatever you asked him for. Oh, but he’ll whine during the whole process. When he’s asked for something, he’ll automatically get on it, and then he’ll realize he could have said no a second too late. You’ll regret asking him for anything when he starts whining, but you’ll probably ask him for another favour later on because he’s probably the only one that will do it, even if he does whine about it. Also, others might probably remind you about the favor you asked for when they ask you for one, Derek won’t. He forgets about that stuff and never really cares too much aobut it. If you say no, he’ll bitch at you for about five minutes and then leave you alone to do it himself.
loud.
If he’s around and in a bad mood, you’ll hear him. He doesn’t care what keeping the voice down means, if something’s wrong, he’ll tell the whole world. It’s really not his fault, it’s the fault of whatever went wrong. If he’s not happy then everyone should know about it because he’s Derek Mont and whatever happens to him is important for everyone. Not only is he loud when he’s angry, he’s also loud when he’s happy. He likes expressing his happiness and letting others know about it. You can only hope that he’s sad when you see him because those are the only times when he’s not loud, because he doesn’t want anyone else to know he’s sad and tease him about it.
gullible.
Tell him the aliens are invading the planet and he’ll run for his life. Tell him Jason is real and he’ll come for Derek Friday the thirteen and he’ll hide under his bed. But don’t tell him you love him and then leave him because he’ll fall for you and end up broken once you leave him for someone else. Derek is not stupid, he just has too much trust in people. He was taught that people are good by nature, even in church the priest always said that. Derek believes it and there’s nothing in the world that can make him doubt it. If someone did lie to him, well, he will try to find a good reason as to why he was lied to. Telling him some people are just liars is not good enough for him. It ruins his whole ‘the world is a perfect place’ thought.
dreamer.
Derek is the boy with the big imagination. Since he was a little kid, he came up with made up stories and imaginary friends that made his sister question his sanity. Now that he’s grown up, he doesn’t make up stories or imaginary friends. Instead, Derek makes up stories about his future and someone else. When he got married, all he dreamed of was giving Samantha and their child the best life possible. He had already thought of the perfect house for them and how their child was going to look like. All of his dreams end up in disillusion and him wondering where he went wrong. That doesn’t stop him from dreaming once again when he falls for a new person, whether it’s someone he knows or a celebrity.
romantic.
He’s the girly Mont child, he admits that. Not because his sister is not feminine, but because Derek actually likes watching romantic movies more than she does and even cries when the girl doesn’t end up with the guy. Derek likes that type of thing, meeting your other half and going through different tests on your life that will end up with both halves meeting once again and spending the rest of their lives together. The whole John Cusack famous scene, yeah, he did it a few times. The Heath Ledger famous singing and dancing scene, that too, but only once. Derek likes that type of thing and, since he’s the guy, he does them instead of expecting someone else to do it for him. Oddly enough, none of his girlfriends ever liked those signs of love, everyone else seemed to like it and wished to have someone like Derek. Secretly, Derek wants someone like that too.
bitchy.
Don’t talk to him in the morning before he drinks coffee. Don’t talk to him very late at night when he can’t sleep. Oh! and never take anything that belongs to him without his permission. He’ll bite your head off if you do. That’s his way of being. You can see him in the afternoons, smiling and laughing and you might think he’s a great guy, but you might get a surprise when he snaps at someone that ate the last chocolate bar that was on his suitcase. You really don’t want to be near him when he’s in a bad mood, he doesn’t recognize people and grabs the first one he sees to blame at for whatever’s happening. He’s jealous too, and becomes very bitchy when he sees whoever he likes with someone else. That’s his nature, he was born to get whatever he wants, and if he doesn’t have it, well, that’s just not fair.

BEST MEMORY:"Not too hard to choose on this one: meeting Logan. I was already settled on my dorm so there was really nothing else to do but get to know the place I was going to be living in: London. So I got into one of those big red buses with a second floor, you know which ones and was very excited to see the city. Turns out, everyone else was taking pictures and talking about the attractions except me. Something else caught my eye. Well, someone. Who? Well, the tourist guide of course! Before getting on the plane, my friends told me I would probably end up with an English guy, that I would fall for that famous English accent and never go back to New York. Half of it is true. I’m never going back to New York, not unless I take Logan with me, but he doesn’t have an English accent. Oh well, like Jagger said, you can’t always get what you want."
WORST MEMORY:"When my sister walked into my room crying, I knew it meant something was wrong. Maybe she was getting a divorce or something was wrong with her baby, I never thought that she was home to tell me my parents had died in a car accident on their way back home. My whole life changed in that moment. I was practically an orphan now. Amelia was going to take care of me, but was I supposed to call her mom? I begged to keep my parents’ death a secret, I didn’t need anyone at school to look at me with pity or fear of me breaking up. Sometimes I feel as if I wanted to avoid thinking of my parents as being dead and instead think of them being on a long trip around the world. I still stay up at night, wondering if they are ever going to come back."
HISTORY:
After Amelia, their first born, Felicity and Albert knew their daughter was the first one of many more. They both came from big families and all their siblings and cousins had many children too, so it was more than logic they too would have a lot of kids. It really didn’t happen that way. As Amelia grew, her parents grew more and more concerned on the fact that Felicity wasn’t getting pregnant. They were the odd ones of their families and simply watched the dozens of nephews and nieces running around with their only daughter. Amelia kept growing up and her parents started to give up on their dream of having more children. Once their only daughter graduated high school and was on her way to college, the couple decided to simply forget about adding another member to their family and start planning their much awaited trip around the world after retirement. Of course, they had planned on being a little bit older when the trip arrived, but their only child was ready to take care of herself so the trip had to be moved a few years before. Well, that was until Felicity found out she was pregnant once again. Being forty-three and pregnant was more than complicated. Their whole attention had to go to the pregnancy, along with Amelia’s who felt she also had some responsibility concerning her future brother or sister. Just like in any pregnancy, there were the normal complications but due to Felicity’s age, there was a higher risk of the baby being premature, having a birth disorder, or not even coming out alive. The couple decided to take the risk, knowing that it was the last time they would ever have the chance of being parents again. Nine months later, Felicity gave birth to not one but two healthy baby boys.
Having two babies instead of one made the couple forget that they hadn’t had the big family they had planned and just how long it took for them to be parents again. The babies were quite different, despite the fact that Felicity liked to dress them the same. While Derek’s twin was being taken care of, Derek opted to bite the crib’s bars to see just how they tasted before jumping up and down to reach the mobile with sea creatures and the happy music. Since an early age, Derek was in his own world, just caring about what else to explore instead of what his parents were trying to teach him. He learned to walk and talk along with his twin, but neither Felicity nor Albert knew how he learned since his attention span was almost nonexistent. Derek was the twin to look out for, not because he could hurt himself to the point of crying, but because he could give anyone a heart attack. From getting his little finger too close to the sockets to climbing into the dinner table and jumping off of it just for the sake of fun, there was nothing Derek thought of as ‘too risky’. At first, he had two pairs of eyes following him around, wincing every time the little boy hit his head against a table, a wall, or fell down with a heart stopping sound, but every time Derek would just get up and decide he would never try that again and look for something else to do. After a year of both boys being able to walk and talk, their parents decided that Derek was pretty much ‘rubber boy’ and opted to let him explore the world and not wince at every fall or bump the little brown-haired boy was involved in.
The Mont twins were a special couple. Not because of their different personalities, but because they grew up along their nephews, nieces, and their cousin’s children. Even their parents looked slightly like their grandparents, but that didn’t stop them from having a normal childhood filled with many backyard family gatherings, family trips, and swimming pool parties. As children, the Mont twins were pretty close, Derek being the one to make his brother laugh with whatever thing came into his mind to do while his brother protected him from the taller boys at their class that liked to make them feel bad. At a very early age, Derek knew that he was never going to change his mind about girls having cooties and not wanting to hold a girl’s hand ever. The girls in their class thought of the Mont twins as the very cute ones they wanted to sit next to and force to play with them with barbies and ‘mommy and daddy’. They never could get Derek and ended up running after the boy, yelling at him to come back, for the entire recess period. He didn’t mind, running was something he liked to do. His real reason for not wanting to hold hands with girls or even play with them came one afternoon at home, playing video games with his best friend. One moment they were playing Mario Bros. and the next their lips were pressed together. It was just for a moment, but it was enough for Derek to understand he liked boys and for his relationship with his brother to change. Once the kiss had ended, Derek’s eyes didn’t land on his best friend. Instead, they fixed on his twin brother that was on the doorway, looking at him with a look Derek couldn’t describe before running away. They never talked about it, mainly because Derek was afraid of what his brother would say. It was something they both kept a secret and pretended it never happened, but they did stop talking about girls.
High school was… interesting. Derek entered it by being open about his sexual preferences and took the insults and beatings as they came. People publicly admired him for taking it all while others opted to keep away in the public eye but admiring him in secret. It was something that the boy didn’t notice as much as his friends did nor did he honestly care. Most of his friends were outcasts, the nerdy and weird kids that were already being bullied and didn’t see the difference between being bullied because of their weirdness and being bullied because of their friendship with Derek. His first high school year started as something he could live with, but ended as the worst year of his life. Just a few weeks after the Mont twins turned fifteen, their parents perished on a car accident involving a drunk driver and a red light. When their sister finished telling them all about it, the twins had their first real hug in years. Everything at home changed, the twins settled in with their older sister Amelia and her family that was going to slowly increase. The twins helped around the house as much as possible, not wanting to feel as if they were being a burden to their sister and her husband. At school, Derek pretended nothing was wrong. He had no idea what his brother was saying, but, to him, their parents were taking their dream trip around the world and would probably be back someday, at least for their graduation. That’s the way Derek wanted to live and was going to live no matter what. A year passed until the siblings went to therapy, Derek quickly being diagnosed with mild OCD and beginnings of depression. The medication hadn’t been around for more than a week before it became Derek’s long lost companion.
Once the medication had settled in and kicked, Derek was back to his old gay self. As he grew up, it seemed that he wasn’t as weird as before. More and more boys were coming out and admitting they kind of swung both ways or were strictly boy lovers. Derek never had a stable boyfriend, no one could keep up with his personality and innocence. There were kisses and maybe going a bit further at parties, but nothing that could break Derek’s innocence, as most of his friends would say. It didn’t matter to the boy, he knew that he was going to meet someone one day that would beat all of the boys he already knew. It gave him hope, even as high school came to an end and the Mont twins graduated. As a graduation gift, his parents had left them the money they had put aside for their trip around the world and gave both of them a year and a half to see the world before deciding where to go to school. The Mont twins went on their trip, either one having a different country as a favorite but both agreeing that Africa had been eye-opening. The thing that caught Derek’s attention more than anything else was the music. Each country had different music but they all gave Derek the same message. It was settled, he wanted to study music and what better place to study it than where his father had come from: London.

ROLE PLAY WORD: --
Pathetic. The word described Derek almost perfectly. No, scratch that, the word was the meaning of Derek at the moment and for the rest of his life. He had fucked things up the day before, probably forever. No, not probably. He had fucked thigns up forever. Nothing was going to be able to fix what he had done. Yet, there he was, looking pathetic, hoping that maybe, just maybe, he hadn’t fucked things up as much as he knew he had. He hadn’t seen Logan at all, was keeping his lame promise of not bothering the guy until he was forgiven. Maybe Logan had been there, backstage during the set, but Derek had kept his head down as he had walked into and out of the stage, not wanting to let anyone see how miserable he looked. It had been the worst day ever. In the morning, Derek had woken up thinking that he was supposed to go bathe pumpernickel, only to remember what he had done, and how he probably was banned from even glancing at she’s a trick’s bus. It was his entire fault, he was paying for it, and the cost was unbearable. During the set, though, he was the same Derek that everyone knew, but as soon as it all ended though, he had vanished. He didn’t want to talk to anyone or waste any time. Logan was supposed to go knock on his bus after the set to take him out, right? Wrong. That had been Logan’s plan but Derek had royally fucked things up and now there was not going to be any date. That didn’t stop him, though, from getting ready for it. He was hoping, praying that Logan had thought things a bit more and wasn’t angry anymore. That he had taken Derek’s promise of waiting for him seriously and was going to knock on the door and Derek would go out with him, their argument long forgotten.
It was funny how he tried fooling himself into thinking that things were going to work out and get fixed in an instant when, in reality, there was nothing to fix, nothing broken. There was no relationship to save, nothing between them that needed repair. Derek was sitting in the bus, eyes on the door. Logan was not there. He was probably somewhere else with someone that wasn’t desperate or pathetic like Derek. Derek couldn’t blame him, though, he would have chosen anyone else because it was true, everyone else was better than him. His only chance on getting his dream life next to Logan had vanished. He had made it disappeare by being untrustworthy and telling Logan what he thought. Couldn’t he think before saying something like ‘you’re a whore, I don’t believe in you’? It was official, as soon as they started moving to another city and they passed a bridge, he was going to jump off of it. It was far better than his second option: aspirin overdose. It was the only medication he had, why didn’t he have more problems so he could be on medication? That was it! Maybe he could make up a disorder and could use that to make Logan forgive him! No, it wasn’t going to work. Derek was too stupid to think of an illness and he was not going to go and see a therapist to get ideas from, ever. There was nothing for him to do because Logan had said he was desperate, that sort of meant ‘I don’t want to see you ever again’ right? That was it, it probably meant that and he was just not getting it through his thick skull.
He was still grasping onto that bit of information he had acquired the day before on the im conversation. Logan liked him and Derek made him say really weird stuff. Derek was brilliant in Logan’s eyes, brilliant as the stars or something like that. When he had read that, he wasn’t even paying attention since he had no idea they were talking about him. Still, it meant that it wasn’t going to be easy for Logan to forget him, right? Ok, maybe not forgetting him meant not being able to forget their argument but, still, Derek wanted Logan to keep on thinking about him because he knew that would lead him into forgiving how stupid he had been. Maybe, Derek hadn’t talked to Logan enough to know how his mind worked. It could either end with him being forgiven yet not liked anymore or never forgiven yet never forgotten. Logan could still like him, be with other people, and make Derek pay by him finding out. It didn’t matter because Derek new something, something that was part of his present. Logan liking him didn’t change the fact that there was no date (no place to go and have drinks in and no place to eat dinner in) and that Derek was only looking at a door that wasn’t going to open and reveal Logan waiting for him (telling him to forget what had been said on their im conversation the day before because it didn’t matter anymore). He had been holding onto his faith of beign forgiven tightly, but it didn’t matter how strong or weak he was, in the end, Derek was going to fall into realization: Logan was never going to forgive him and he was going to be forgotten with the next person Logan found attractive. There was nothing for him to do but to wait for that fall that would leave him with another question: now what do I do? He looked around, sighing, he was alone. The bus looked just like his whole future would look like: empty, except for him.
